Why Your Core and Pelvic Floor Aren’t Healing on Their Own After Birth

I love many things about my work, but what I love the most is listening to women share their stories.

I have seen the power of one sharing their story and showing all women that there is hope! I am a huge advocate for women’s health! I am on a mission to make certain that ALL military women are empowered with resources to have bodies that work right! My passion comes from my personal story of suffering with pelvic floor dysfunction for far too long, and for all of the brave women who have shared their stories and journey with me!

I am the person who sits and listens to them tell their stories. I am the one who allows these women to be vulnerable and shed their tears. I am often the first person who has validated their feelings and the symptoms they have been suffering with. Some have been searching for help for years, and others have suffered in the dark silence because they were ashamed of their own bodies. Too afraid to even ask for help, or have no clue where to start.

I was a woman who suffered for six long years with pelvic floor dysfunction. I did search for my answers and I was told over and over again by healthcare professionals that my symptoms were normal. That having a body that didn’t work right and feel good to me was going to be my new norm. This is NOT motherhood, this is NOT womanhood, and this is NOT ok! Sadly my story is not unique – I hear the same things over and over again! Which is why I strive to ensure women are getting these resources!

Common symptoms women are suffering with that are very common but NEVER normal:

  • Diastasis Recti (separation of the rectus abdominis muscles)
  • Painful or uncomfortable sex
  • Lower back and hip pain
  • Leaking and incontinence (urinary and fecal)
  • Pelvic organ prolapse

These are a few of the symptoms women are suffering with and it is affecting them physically, mentally and emotionally. There is nothing more disempowering than having your body not work or feel good. This is why I’m so passionate about bringing M.O.M.S (Military Outreach MUTU System) into the military community to support both spouses and female soldiers with these vital tools! With readiness as the military’s number one goal I want to ensure that both spouses and soldiers are ready for whatever is thrown our way in this unpredictable life.

To the women who show up and are so brave to share your story, thank you! I know it’s not easy, but when you share your story you let women know that they are not in the fight alone! You continue to be my “why” over and over again! It’s the stories that you share that keep me moving forward every single day. I will spend the rest of my days advocating for all women in this area of their health! To ensure you all have the education, resources and tools you deserve to pave a better path for the generations to come. Whether you are a working mama, stay at home mom, or a servicemember, you deserve to have a body that works right!

It’s concerning to me and honestly quite heartbreaking that women are not able to live their best lives because they are dealing with pelvic floor dysfunction. Women are isolating themselves because of embarrassing symptoms like leaking and incontinence. Strategically planning outfits just in case they have an accident. Women’s marriages and self confidence are being destroyed because sex is painful. Then they are being told to buy adult diapers or learn how to relax and have a glass of wine before getting intimate with their partner. This is not ok. It’s quite concerning how many women have the same stories and are getting the same resources like this.

I am here to tell you that you are amazing and so is your body! If you are suffering there is help and that help is Military Outreach MUTU System (www.mutustrong.com)! My mission with this project is to meet military women where they are and provide you with the education, resources, and tools that you deserve. With the number one goal always being function first! This has nothing to do with the way you look, but how you feel! And I want you to feel good! To be our best, we need to feel our best! There is no other muscle in the body that would get stretched to the max, or have trauma or an injury and we would just let it heal on its own in just six weeks. No way! So why in the world are moms cleared to go back to their lives and we just expect that core and pelvic floor will eventually heal on its own?
